The Lost Man, Jane Harper's third novel, has gone on sale in Australia and New Zealand.

Following Jane's award-winning debut The Dry and follow-up Force of Nature, The Lost Man is a standalone novel.

The Lost Man is set in remote Queensland cattle country. It involves a family's struggle to come to terms with the mysterious death of one of their own — Cameron Bright, one of three adult brothers.

Early reviews for The Lost Man have been glowing. News and entertainment website nine.com.au said The Lost Man "sets a whole new standard that will be very difficult to beat".

Crime fiction columnist Fiona Hardy wrote The Lost Man cements Jane as one of Australia's premier authors.

The Lost Man will be launched in the United States on February 5 and the United Kingdom on February 7. The launches of foreign language editions of The Lost Man will be staggered — The Lost Man has been sold in more than 20 foreign language territories. This figure is likely to rise, with The Dry and Force of Nature sold in more than 30 territories.

Jane spent months completing research for The Lost Man, culminating in a visit to outback Queensland involving a 900km trip across the desert.

"I really enjoyed researching The Lost Man and I absolutely loved writing it," Jane said.

"I think readers who liked The Dry will also enjoy The Lost Man. In many ways it is similar in tone and feel, even as a standalone.

The Lost Man is now on sale at bookshops across Australia and New Zealand.
